Judge Robert Wilters is a native of Baldwin County, Alabama, raised in Bay Minette.  He is a graduate of the University of Alabama and Cumberland School of Law of Samford University.

Judge Wilters was a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) before returning to Baldwin County in 1986, where he worked as an Assistant District Attorney and was Chief Assistant District Attorney for six years.

Judge Wilters was a District Judge for six years before being elected Circuit Judge in 1998.  He was reelected to his current position in 2004.

He and his wife have two children.  Judge Wilters is a member of the United Methodist Church where he and his family are very active.  Judge Wilters is a member of the Republican Party.
